Plutonium Man Triathlon - Individual

Description:

Powell Real Estate Group Logo - For 3rrr

THIS IS THE FIFTH AND FINAL EVENT OF THE MULTI-SPORT SERIES:  SEPTEMBER 4, 2021

RACE  FORMAT 1.3 km swim; 40 km bike; 10 km run

Course Description: Swimmers enter the Columbia River at a beach about 400 yards upstream of the North Richland starch plant (note that the start on the map is not accurate...we will not start at the POB low dock barge slip) and swim downstream with the current (fast times, baby) 1.3 km to the exit just upstream of Sprout Road.  The single transition area will be at the SE corner of the WSU Tri-Cities campus grounds.  Cyclists will do a 2-l00p course as described in the maps below. The run will consist of two loops that take runners upstream (north) along the foot path, with a hard left turn by the Triton Submarine monument, back along Richardson Road, taking a left on Crimson Way, and back through the WSU campus.  Note to locals: PLEASE  don't ride the bike course during rush hour commuter traffic!

COVID SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: We will be following the guidelines from the Governor's office to keep everyone safe and healthy before, during, and after the race.  We expect 100% compliance from all race participants, spectators and volunteers.  Below are the main aspects of our Covid safety plan: (WE WILL SEND OUT AN E-MAIL TO ALL PARTICIPANTS A FEW DAYS BEFORE THE RACE TO LIST THE CURRENT COVID PRECAUTIONS)

  • Wear your face mask/face covering at all times before the race as you arrive for packet pickup, setting up in the transition area, and waiting to start in the rolling wave starting procedure. Keep your face mask/face covering handy in the transition area so that you can put it back on upon finishing the race.
  • Practice social distancing before and after the race.
  • In your packet, you will be provided with a disposable face mask to wear as you get ready to start the race.  Wear this mask as you walk to the start line and keep it on until just before your rolling swim wave starts, where there will be a garbage can to dispose of your mask before you start the swim.
  • The start of the race will be a rolling wave format, which starts with a long, socially-distanced line of swimmers waiting to get in the water. Please self-seed yourself in these waves such that the faster swimmers are in the earlier waves and slower swimmers in the later waves.  3 swimmers will start at a time, approximately every 15 seconds.
  • Again, you can dispose of the mask just prior to your wave starting, so there is no need to wear the mask during the race.
  • Upon finishing the race, please retrieve your face mask/face covering from the transition area and put it back on.  Keep it in place, except when you are drinking water from the bottles provided.
  • We cannot have a large gathering for an award ceremony.  Instead, check the Negative Split website on your phone at www.nsplit.com/results to see if you placed in your age group or were one of the top 3 overall men or women and you can collect your award after the race at the location we will designate on race day. Please give us a little time after the race to have your award ready for you, so you have plenty of time to stow your gear after the race before picking up your award.  Awards are race glasses that will NOT be mailed.  If you miss the pick up after the race you will need to contact Eric at sagag@charter.net to arrange a pickup time for your award.

Clothing Option:  Emilio DeSoto has graciously agreed to supply their high quality Carrera Tri Short as our clothing option this year for the fantastic price of $45/short.  This is nearly a 50% saving off the retail price and a great deal that you should jump on right now!!!  The tri shorts will come in basic black with white stitching and our race logo printed down one leg.  Go to www.desotosport.com to see a detailed description of these Carrera Tri Shorts, which come in both women's and men's sizes (S, M, L, and XL).  You can also check out their sizing chart on the DeSoto website and see the other triathlon clothing options they offer.  Race Director testimonial...with DeSoto's help we offered these tri shorts 5 years ago and 8 years ago and they have held up beautifully.  I use my 8-year old tri shorts every week teaching a spin class and for training and racing during the tri season.  Many thanks to Emilio for coming through again for our race clothing option. Be careful as you order and indicate your gender and size in the drop down box to make sure you order the correct model/size.
